This lake is believed to be haunted by the ghost of a fisherman. Stories say the fisherman accidentally killed his nephew with a shotgun, and the nephew's ghost came back and drowned the uncle while he was out on the lake fishing. This cemetery is known for containing the burial site of Frank James, the older brother of outlaw Jesse James. His wife Ann is buried here as well. Witnesses have reported a glowing, misty figure that appears here at night, walking over the hill. Ghostly Civil War soliders have been spotted here as well. There is a legend surrounding this park that dates back to the 1800's. It is about the beautiful daughter of a Native-American chief who married a warrior. When he died on a hunting trip, the woman was so heartbroken that she jumped from the high cliff and died in the waters below. Margie Kay, the author of "Haunted Independence." claims that this park is haunted. She has said that she felt numerous ghostly presences while on the grounds, one of which is named "Old George."
